The Mandalorian and Grogu Ride Will Open Alongside the Movie

During its SXSW panel on “The Future of Worldbuilding,” Disney unveiled a new look at its upcoming theme park ride focused on the Mandalorian and Grogu, which releases on May 22, 2026—the same day the two hit the big screen.

This previously announced retheme of Smugger’s Run will feature at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, and mark its first major update since 2019’s Rise of the Resistance. Concept art featured during the panel features the Razor Crest and Millennium Falcon heading toward Cloud City, a Tatooine Sand Crawler, and Death Star remnants floating in space. Imagineers captured scenes from the movie to use for the attraction, but Favreau said the update wouldn’t retell the film’s events. “It’s more like participating in something that’s happening just off-camera from what you see,” he said.

Along with the new Mandalorian mission, Disneyland is bringing some BDX droids to its Tokyo and Paris locations, and Walt Disney World. The little guys will be maintained by Otto—the Anzellan last seen in Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian—and also appear in the Mandalorian & Grogu movie. You can see them and the concept art below.

“Opening an attraction and such a massive movie on the same day wouldn’t be possible without the relationships we have inside Disney,” said Imagineer Asa Kalama. “Jon and Dave [Filoni] have shared their story with us, and now we’ve all worked together to come up with a new mission for Smugglers Run that plays into this narrative.”
