Nearly 25 Years Later, Terminator 2 Is Getting a New Video Game

Spread the love

Despite not having a new movie in six years, Terminator has been recently kept alive through TV and video games. The next game for the franchise goes back to its past—specifically, its game-changing sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Developed by Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta creator Bitmap Bureau, Terminator 2D: No Fate is a retro-style sidescroller that sees players inhabit Sarah Connor, the T-800, and the adult John Connor. As Sarah, players stealth and shoot their way through levels while occasionally avoiding the T-1000, and playing the T-800 will have you shoot and punch your way through anything in sight. (As the trailer shows, part of that brawling will involve being a buck-ass nude Terminator.) Finally, playing John means running and gunning through the post-apocalypse and leading fellow resistance fighters to bring down Skynet once and for all.

Terminator 2 has been adapted for games a handful of times, most of which were basically straight adaptations of the film. Bitmap said No Fate will adapt specific scenes from T2 and feature wholly original moments of its own. It’ll also have “multiple endings,” which should encourage multiple playthroughs to see how humanity is saved or further doomed, depending on player actions. With Terminator 2 turning 25 years old in 2026, this can be another way to celebrate the film’s anniversary when it eventually rolls around. And if not that, there’s always the other modern era Terminator games out now (like Resistance or Survivors), or just playing the T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1.

Terminator 2D: No Fate releases September 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Bitmap also teased its release on “retro platforms,” whose specifics and date are TBD.
