Kevin Bacon’s The Bondsman Looks Devilishly Fun

Spread the love

Kevin Bacon plays a bail bondsman brought back from the dead to keep doing his job—except instead of hunting regular ol’ humans, he’s now chasing demons who’ve escaped from hell. That’s the premise for Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios’ new Prime Video series, and this new trailer suggests the finished product will be just as fun as you might hope. Kevin Bacon with a flaming chainsaw!

There are definitely some Ash vs. Evil Dead monster-fight vibes afoot, with maybe a touch of The Good Place‘s corrupt afterlife bureaucracy—which are comparisons we’d never toss around lightly. Also intriguing: that The Bondsman will have a larger mythology at work, with Bacon’s character, Hub Halloran, pulled into an underworld-linked mystery that’ll make him question his devilishly propelled immortality. Plus, yes, that is country star turned actor Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones, The Exorcist) playing Hub’s wife, and this trailer contains proof we’ll see Nettles and Bacon—also a musician in his spare time—perform onstage together.

In fact, country music gets a shout-out in the official description: “Kevin Bacon stars as Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter, who’s back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. By chasing down those demons, with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned—which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music.”

Sign us up. In fact, sign us the hell up. The rest of the cast includes Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Justified), Beth Grant (No Country for Old Men, Donnie Darko), Maxwell Jenkins (Arcadian, Lost in Space), and Jolene Purdy (The White Lotus, Orange Is the New Black).

All eight episodes of The Bondsman arrive April 3 on Prime Video, so you can commit the deadly sin of “binging the entire show all at once without getting up from your couch” if you so choose.
